Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster

Psychedelic bands such as The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane enjoy great success with songs celebrating the counterculture of the '60s

1964 Nivada Grenchen Aviator Sea Diver Chronomaster, movement cal. Valjoux 23, an affordable vintage and a great poor mans Heuer. This example is from the early to mid 60’s, and is the first generation style with the large arrow hands and was made from 1963 to about 1970 when they switched over to the classic 70’s stick hands.

The Chronomaster chronograph was launched in 1963. It is presented like a diver’s chronograph, waterproof to 200 m. It carries in fact 3 inscriptions: Chronomaster, Aviator, Sea Diver. Ground, air, sea in a certain way, a beautiful program that sound like a joke.

There were also a large variety of different movements to be found in the Chronomasters. The best would have to be the venerable Valjoux 23 column wheel movement, which was also found in chronographs from Heuer, Rolex and other higher-end Swiss brands. Other movements used include Valjoux 92, 7733, Landeron 248 and Venus 210 to name a few.
