1972 Porsche Design Chronograph by Orfina.

There are plenty of automotive-inspired watches and watch brands that partner with car companies. But the Porsche Design carries the design DNA and philosophy of the company’s founder, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.

In 1972, he founded Porsche Design and his first product was a wristwatch, at that time there were no black watches, so when Porsche Design introduced an austere chronograph in a black steel case with a black bracelet, it was a sensation.

It is a super cool watch and was also used by Military Pilots, including Tom Cruise in Top Gun.

For a design firm without expertise in building watches, Porsche Design has had to partner with other companies to build timepieces. Since 1972, they have worked with, first Orfina, IWC, and since 1998, Eterna.
