Movado is an American luxury watch brand best known for its Museum Watch designed in 1947. Movado was originally founded in 1881 in Switzerland by Achilles Ditesheim. In 1983, the company was purchased by Gedalio Grinberg, a Cuban-born Jew who fled Fidel Castro’s Marxist Revolution in 1960 with his family.

Zenith and Movado collaborated between 1969 and 1984. As part of that, Movado was allowed to use the Cal. 3019 el Primero as well as some of the Cal. 25X2 series and Zenith was allowed to use the Movado cal. 405 and 408

Due to this collaboration, people frequently claim that the el Primero was a joint development by Movado and Zenith, this doesn’t make any sense since the collaboration started only after the formal presentation of the el Primero January 1969.
